These guys are really special.
Sculpted in black, this version of our jumping spider is extra spooky. He sports all the usual accoutrements of our jumping spider design; white and semi transparent coloured mask (orange in this rendition instead of his usual blue), tiny black and white striped legs, bitty palps, and four buggy versions of our signature blue dot-stacked eyes.
These special offerings take this already intricate design a step further by introducing sandblasting into the process. I designed bat decals and had them meticulously cut out in vinyl, and arranged them on the surface of the spider. Then I carefully painted a resist fluid on their eyes. Then, entire piece was sandblasted and finally meticulously oiled with mineral oil. This leaves the entire surface matte and soft, other than the bats and the eyes which remain beautifully shiny.
The effect is subtle and demure...on an outrageously adorable spider.
Hand-sculpted and kiln annealed, this figure is 100% glass with the use of no paint or molds. Each and every detail is meticulously sculpted in with another colour of Italian soft glass.
